Scott is a graduate of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business management. Upon graduating from college, he was introduced to the Berkshires when he was hired as a District Executive for Great Trails Council, B.S.A. in Dalton.
His Property and Casualty Insurance career began in 1988 as a Bodily Injury Field Claim Adjuster with State Farm Insurance in Harrisburg, PA. He has served in a leadership role for 35 of his 38 years in the insurance industry. This includes leadership roles in Property Claims, Casualty Claims & Litigation, Insurance Operations, Commercial Lines Underwriting, and Sales/Marketing. In 2015, Scott joined Merchants Insurance Group as their New England Regional Vice President, responsible for the growth and profitability of his region. Five years ago, he was promoted to his current role with Merchants as Vice President, National Distribution, where he manages the relationships, develops profitable growth strategies, and negotiates contracts and incentives with partners. He has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional insurance designation.
Scott and his wife Cathy have been married for 42 years and have four grown children and four grandchildren. Multiple relocations throughout his career have taken the family from the Berkshires to Pennsylvania, then back to the Berkshires, back again to Pennsylvania, then to Connecticut, and in 2007, a return to the Berkshires followed by a 5-year assignment in New Hampshire. Scott and Cathy plan to retire in the next 18 months and as his professional career winds down, he is looking to reallocate some time and energy to community service.
