Director of Community Impact

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

 

  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and continuously improves a community impact plan that is innovative, efficient, and improves the quality of life for the most vulnerable in the community.
  • Maintains current knowledge of, and monitors changes in, community factors that affect the programmatic goals and provides guidance to the Board and CEO/President regarding strategy.
  • Supports Board, Community Impact committees and partners with CEO/President to engage partners and volunteers in BUW’s community goals with a diversity, equity, and inclusive lens.
  • Supervises the Community Impact Program Manager and interns and provides appropriate support and training as needed.
  • Ensures BUW has the infrastructure (technology, procedures, and tools) to implement the Community Impact plans and achieve BUW’s goals.
  • Represents BUW as needed in public venues and community events and demonstrates exceptional interpersonal abilities and community leadership skills.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Volunteer Engagement and the Director of Donor Engagement to articulate the goals for BUW and align messaging and strategy for community impact.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with other United Ways, partner organizations, business leaders, elected officials, foundation representatives and others.

 

Community Impact/Investment Responsibilities

  • Establish, communicate, and develop a Community Impact plan, including vision, strategies, and a departmental budget.
  • Identify, engage, and support a broad cross-section of issue stakeholders, community partners, and subject matter experts to develop aligned strategies, and create concrete action plans that will lead to positive community-level outcomes in BUW’s priority areas.
  • Direct implementation of strategies and action plans that include the allocation of grant dollars, the development of programs, and the support of coalitions to impact community change.
  • Provide support for policy development, media and marketing, community relations, grant development, and information requests.
  • Convene, facilitate, and participate in community activities as well as local collaborations, networks, and planning efforts to further community impact.
  • Direct the process of grant making and community investment, recommend funding awards for relevant funding cycles, contract oversight, funded partner support, community research and grassroots community engagement and collaboration to the meet the goals of the organization.
  • Assist Director of Donor Engagement in directing, managing, and generating government, foundation, corporate and individual revenue generation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of best practices used by other United Ways and communities.
  • Monitor BUW funded programs and system change efforts and recommend modifications based on performance, in a consistent and transparent manner.

 

Evaluation and Measurement Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and consultation in the measurement of outcomes and the review of funded partner information and performance.
  • Direct and oversee community needs assessments and evaluation activities ensuring accountability to achieve community impact.
  • Provide direction and leadership for outcome identification, measurement, reporting and analysis at the program and community level.
  • Support the Director of Finance and Administration in developing and implementing the review of financial information of programs and agencies seeking financial support from BUW, including budget review, audit analysis, and review/approval of supplemental fundraising activities.
  • Interpret statistical measurements and analyses of community impact programs and initiatives to direct and advance strategies for sustained community change.
  • Ensure there is a process to measure and report on community goals of our priority areas.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. BA/BS in social work, human services, or related field; MA preferred.
  2. 5-7 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, specifically in program design or grant making.
  3. United Way, Community Foundation, or other systems-change work experience a plus.
  4. Strong supervisory skills and experience leading effective teams.
  5. Knowledge of human service systems and the nonprofit ecosystem in Berkshire County.
  6. Experience in community impact, coalition development, project management, and evaluation.
  7. High emotional intelligence and ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
  8. Ability to motivate and retain volunteers, including donors and board members.   
  9. Proven time management, planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
  10. Effective communicator, including writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  11. Must have flexible schedule to attend events in the early morning, evening, and weekends.
  12. Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to travel to off-site work obligations.
  13. Must be reliable, a team player, and willing to do other duties as assigned.
